So many drivers on the road purchase radar detectors hoping it may save them from a possible ticket. The majority of people buy cheap detectors, usually less then $120. These mainly consist of brands such as Cobra, Uniden, and Whistler. These low end units perform poorly and often don't provide enough detection time/distants. The other issue is that they have a ton of oscillator leakage, meaning they actually transmit the signal they are designed to detect, This causes other detectors to react and display an alert. In my sick little ways, I get back at them when I see a driver using a cheap detector. Every 10 minutes or so I will use a radar gun to set off their detector with a direct hit, causing them to jump on the brakes. Much of the time the driver simply turns the detector off after the 4th and 5th "false" alert..
